May you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day. For this occasion, everybody made some special VD’s mix. I’ve choose a special one by the beatmaker Dela, “The Broken heart’s mix“. Not that I dislike VD because I’m surrounded by love from my family and friends. It’s a day to celebrate love however this day may remind some of us of our broken hearts, so if you’re one of us, here is a mix for you. Stay positive thought, love is here somewhere.

Bonne Saint Valentin à tout le monde, pour cette occasion tout le monde a fait un mix spécial Saint-Valentin. Pour ma part, j’ai choisi un mix bien spécial l’anti saint-Valentin mix par le beatmaker Dela, “The Broken heart’s mix“. Non que je déteste la Saint-Valentin car je suis entourée d’amour, de la part de ma famille et de mes amis. C’est un jour pour célébrer l’amour mais ce genre d’événement nous rappelle nos “Broken hearts”, si vous êtes comme nous, voici donc ce très bon mix. Cependant, restez positif, l’amour est là quelque part.

Knxwledge (Klipmode) is going to release a new project in March on All City Records, I had the chance to listen to it and all I can say is that you NEED TO BUY it and listen to it because it’s dope. I really feel his productions. Plus the artwork is great, made by the talented Teebs (My Hollow Drum / Brainfeeder). So I decided to share with you one of my fav of the album, “Exekutive” even if I LIKE A LOT “Pastry” too, I had to choose one.

From Philadelphia beatmaker Knxwledge has been bubbling beneath the surface in the virtual world. Making his name via Myspace, global mixes spinning around the world and with a Mary Anne Hobbs mix plays from Benji B already under his belt he’s ready to step up to the plate in 2010 with his first solo release. 15 tracks here of varying rhythmic structures, lengths and speeds which go way further than mere beats and snippets. Sloppy, on beat and off its all thrown in the beat blender.
I don’t know why I did not watch this video before, i’ve seen it on rappersiknow.com. Bilal is for me one of the best singer nowadays. Listen to this voice, I can’t wait to listen to the finish song, it seems really beautiful.

I found this mp3 of Bilal singing on Led Zeppelin‘s Since I’ve Been Loving You & Radiohead‘s Everything in its Right Place, on the blog Moovmnt. It was in 2007 but I never had the audio of it, I’ve seen some videos. My dad loves Led Zeppelin so I grew up on this kind of music, it’s just so good to hear Bilal’s voice on it (adding some “fucking” or taking out some words as he likes to do lol) especially with a great band like this – ?uestlove (Drums), Cap’n Kirk (Guitar), Tuba Gooding Jr (Sousaphone), Owen Biddle (Bass), James Poyser (Organ), Robert Glasper (Keys). I LOVE how the 3 songs are link together, the transition between the Radiohead’s song and “Sometimes” is perfect + the groovy moment is killing me!

Comme vous devez sûrement le savoir, J*Davey viennent de mettre en téléchargement gratuit une mixtape, Boudoir Synema: The Great Mistapes. Mes oreilles se sont arrêtez sur ce morceau, “Get Together“. La mélodie et les paroles me touchent beaucoup en ce dimanche froid et empli de mélancolie.

I have discover Vijay Iyer Trio through Gilles Peterson’s podcast. A trio composing of Vijay Iyer on piano, Stephan Crump on bass and on drums Marcus Gilmore. I totaly fall in love with the cover of “Mystic Brew“. We pretty much all know this melody, as a fan either of A Tribe Called Quest either of 70′s Soul or maybe both. Ali Shaheed Muhammad sampled the great Mystic Brew by Ronnie Foster. Covering a song, especially a classic one, is a hard excercice. It’s where I’ve been really touched, they totaly interpreted this song as theirs. The piano is hypnotic, the bass is groovy and the drum amazing. This is for me, a totaly brand new interpretation, very contemporary.
I advice you to listen to the album, really well done. I don’t know why but when I listen to it, I can’t stop thinking “José James’s voice would go perfectly with the music”. Actually, José James uses the same compistion on stage, piano, bass and drums. Maybe Gilles Peterson will propose to José James and the trio to collaborate… Who knows.
Mystic Brew – Vijay Iver Trio

J’ai découvert ce trio appelé Vijay Iyer Trio avec Vijay Iyer au piano,Stephen Crump à la basse et Marcus Gilmore à la batterie grâce à un podcast. de Gilles Peterson dans lequel il a mit ce merveilleux morceau “Mystic Brew”. Je suis tombée amoureuse dès la première seconde. Beaucoup d’entre nous connaissons déjà cette mélodie, soit parce que fan de A Tribe Called Quest, soit parce que fan de soul des année 70, ou même les deux! En effet, c’est une reprise de “Mystic Brew” par l’excellentissime Ronnie Foster. L’exercice est difficile surtout lorsque c’est un classique. Difficile car il faut tout en respectant l’orignal apporté du nouveau. Quel intérêt d’avoir une copie conforme? Aucun. Là où j’ai été très touchée dans cette reprise c’est l’interprétation et l’appropriation de ce classique. Ce trio a clairement fait quelque chose de contemporain, de nouveau. Le piano très hypnotique, la basse vraiment groovy et la batterie juste ce qu’il faut.
Je conseille vraiment d’écouter l’album, un très bon album instrumental. A l’écoute de l’album, je ne peux m’empêcher de penser “La voix de José James viendrait souligner parfaitement la musique”. Peut-être que Gilles Peterson amorcera une rencontre entre José James et le trio! Qui sait.
