Saturday 17th with Mikael we went in Belgium for the Dour Festival (thanks again to JKim), Bilal was playing an hour around 7pm. It was pretty nice after that we hang out then Bilal, Tone, Mike, Steve and Corey did a little private session in a tinny tent of the festival for the radio or something, Mika took this great video (at the beginning Bilal is playing around saying in french before going to an interview “merde attend une minute” = “wait a fucking minute“) :

I’m so glad and proud and happy that Free Your Funk organized this show, Bilal + Sly Johnson for the opening. It was a beautiful night for me, as a big fan of his music. Bilal stayed around 2 hours on stage (with DOPE musicians and dope live arrangements!), played several new songs, the album will be out Sept 14th and you sure have to buy it, it will be a must-have !
The video was taken by Mikael Colombu. With this talented guy we went back to see Bilal at Dour, the show was only an hour because of the schedule but they did a little show for the radio of the festival or something like this, it was dope, 20 minutes (videos soon on by Mikael!) with the beautiful “Move on”, one of the new song of the album, a really dope one. We will keep you post with the videos and all from those beautiful 2 shows.

I am such a big fan of Gil Scott Heron, it was one of my best day this year… I discovered him with his book The Vulture when I was 14 then I discover that the guy that wrote this book at the age of 20 was also a musician, spoken word artist and singer. Here I am years later seeing him for the second time in my life at Central Park. The first time was at SOBs in 2008 but he wasn’t as good as he was yesterday at Central Park. It was amazing, he started on his own on the piano, talked a lot with the audience, sharing his genius with us and then the band joined him. Guess what ? Gil Scott Heron had a special guest, the one and only COMMON (that I saw a day earlier at the Fort Greene Festival and a month before in Paris). So it was the 3rd time I was seeing him this year and it was pure joy. The guy is amazing + with Gil Scott Heron playing piano with him, it was great. Gil Scott Heron ended the show doing The Bottle, one of my favorite song. I wish he could had stay longer and do some other classic songs.
Sun, a genius, great musicians, one of the best emcee and a good friend to share this = pure happiness.

Last month was our one year anniversary and people turned out in droves. we had a line around the corner by midnight. expect it to be a little less crazy (but still crazy) this month. ge-ology’s back so it’s six the hard way. plus, free i love vinyl temporary tattoos for everyone (really!)

Aloe Blacc is in Paris for 3 days of promotions, for his upcoming album “Good Things“. I’ve spend the day with him Wednesday as Free your Funk was doing his showcase this night. Really nice and funny person, really professional, we went to a TV show called “La musicale” where he did 2 songs w/ a band + 2 on the piano, the show will be on in September. The live version of “I need a Dollar” is really dope. After a long day of work Aloe Blacc killed it at his showcase @ la Favela Chic singing over a CD for like 25 minutes I would say, nice energy. Yesterday Aloe Blacc did also 3 songs at the great hotel Mama Shelter and tonight he will be on stage for the Block Party in Paris with Common, Ben l’oncle soul and Oxmo Puccino.

Because I’m french I have to support what comes from this country, esp when it’s good like this. Mr JL is a french emcee I’m liking more and more, nice flow, funny lines and good productions… The video is pretty dope featuring one of my fav french emcee, Rocé! I hope you enjoy the french touch!

Oui, je parles trop de ce qui se fait à l’étranger, alors pour une fois je vais supporter ce qui se fait ici chez nous, en France! Mr JL, un rappeur que j’apprecie de plus en plus ! Bon flow, rimes marrantes et bonnes prods, que demander de plus? La Video est vraiment bien fait et puis et puis…. Y a Rocé !!!!
