Here are some of the songs I liked the most during the show. “Make me Over” is def my favorite live, the live version is just awesome. I liked a lot “Since I’ve been Loving you” as I love Led Zep. A dope video too by Mikael Colombu, “All For love“. Audio recorded by Mikael Colombu.

No tags for this post.I’m so glad and proud and happy that Free Your Funk organized this show, Bilal + Sly Johnson for the opening. It was a beautiful night for me, as a big fan of his music. Bilal stayed around 2 hours on stage (with DOPE musicians and dope live arrangements!), played several new songs, the album will be out Sept 14th and you sure have to buy it, it will be a must-have !
The video was taken by Mikael Colombu. With this talented guy we went back to see Bilal at Dour, the show was only an hour because of the schedule but they did a little show for the radio of the festival or something like this, it was dope, 20 minutes (videos soon on by Mikael!) with the beautiful “Move on”, one of the new song of the album, a really dope one. We will keep you post with the videos and all from those beautiful 2 shows.

Be there : July 13th in Paris La Bellevilloise
Soyez là : Mardi 13 juillet à la Bellevilloise !

I am such a big fan of Gil Scott Heron, it was one of my best day this year… I discovered him with his book The Vulture when I was 14 then I discover that the guy that wrote this book at the age of 20 was also a musician, spoken word artist and singer. Here I am years later seeing him for the second time in my life at Central Park. The first time was at SOBs in 2008 but he wasn’t as good as he was yesterday at Central Park. It was amazing, he started on his own on the piano, talked a lot with the audience, sharing his genius with us and then the band joined him. Guess what ? Gil Scott Heron had a special guest, the one and only COMMON (that I saw a day earlier at the Fort Greene Festival and a month before in Paris). So it was the 3rd time I was seeing him this year and it was pure joy. The guy is amazing + with Gil Scott Heron playing piano with him, it was great. Gil Scott Heron ended the show doing The Bottle, one of my favorite song. I wish he could had stay longer and do some other classic songs.
Sun, a genius, great musicians, one of the best emcee and a good friend to share this = pure happiness.

Walter Mecca aka Dal-Gren is a French producer, emcee and singer (he is the one that did the video for Onra’s Long distance). His universe is really unique and this is what I love with this artist. Each time he releases something it’s something really new, something he never did before and you all know some artists kind of do the same all the time because it had worked once.
So Walter Mecca just released a new album, “Tonnerre“, I haven’t listen to the whole album yet but what I’ve listened to was great, a mix of cosmic keyboard, 80’s style, hip hop and funk/disco.
And the packaging is DOPE : VHS and USB package, 80’s style I told you!
Please support good music and buy this album, you will love it.

I’ve received the Timeless (Mochilla) dvds some weeks ago thanks to Plug Research (LA label I’m really following, good artists are signed on). I was so glad when I opened my mailbox. I’ve watched the dvds not so long ago with some friends (much better when sharing the moment with friends). It’s just a pure moment of happiness. The music is really good, the live arrangements are awesome. I was more into the Suite For Ma Dukes dvd as I know the music better but I really enjoyed Mulatu and Verocai that are two very important artists.
It’s really a dvds box I advice, not because the label sent me the dvds and I’m trying to be nice but because I really believe it but I have a little critic, I was excepting a better visual, more artistic. However it’s some of the best live music put on DVD i’ve seen for a while.

Paris was the first show Doom did in Europe. First time after 20 years of career. After this one, he did Amsterdam and London. I’m really proud I’ve been part of this show and help a bit Free Your Funk that organized this show. They (Emmanuel Forlani and Denis Jelen = Free your funk) did a great job, done everything to make this show work. Of course as most of you know, Doom likes to send unknown people on stage with the mask on. That was the main question : Will the real Doom be on stage or not. The sound engineer and the manager were really relax “Don’t worry it will be him“. And we were as well relax when we finally saw the real Doom around, late in the afternoon.
Doom came 20 minutes before the show and stayed on stage 1 hour with two encore and left immediately after the show. I know some people were disappointed but I think that the real fan of Doom was really happy. Doom IS NOT a great performer anyway + he usually does not give a f*** and sends someone else on stage instead of going on stage, or sometimes he sends someone on for 30 minutes and then comes and does like 3 songs and leaves. It was the real Doom for an hour, did lot of his classical.
The only bad point for me was that : HE DID NOT DO RHINESTONES COWBOY ! I told him I really wanted this song, he told me “oh really, I will do it in Amsterdam and London then”, hope he did for the people that were at those shows, this songs is def my fav.

Enjoy.

Free Your Funk event put together a good show with a GREAT line up : Diamond District, Trek Life, Fashawn, Blu and Exile… Dj Babu came by to enjoy the show as well as Dela (great french producer). Trek Life went first (unfortunately I don’t have videos) then Diamond District with lot of good energies, Oddisee even played some new beats, Fashawn and Exile came after, Fashawn is really full of energy and finally Blu, one of my favorite emcees of the new generation. A nice freestyle w/ all the artists ended up the show perfectly (videos coming next week) and a live MPC by Exile!

Friday night Omar was performing in Sannois, Parisian’s suburb, in a little place I like, EMB, where I already saw Amp Fiddler, years ago. It was the first time I saw Omar and I was really happy. The energy was kind of slow at the beginning but ended up really nicely, on some classics joints with lot more energy. I had a great time with my friends enjoying the performance. Omar is def one of the greatest nu soul artists.
